Map of Ideas

Thinkers, books, essays and the concepts of the Glossary in one interactive graph, and how they connect.

Praxeologos

How the map works
  • The map opens with the 56 core concepts. To see all 251 nodes, untick “Core concepts only”, or open “Everything as a list” below the map.
  • Type a concept, a thinker or a book into the search box. It also finds items that are not shown on the map.
  • Select a node to see its definition and connections. Concepts also show passages from the English originals, with a link to the text: the full text on Praxeologos where there is one, otherwise the original at mises.org.
  • The Thinkers, Books, Essays/articles and Concepts boxes show or hide each kind of node. The + / − buttons zoom in and out, and ⤢ shows the whole map.
  • Drag to move the map. To zoom with the mouse wheel, click inside the map first or hold down Ctrl.
  • On touch screens the map is locked so that the page can scroll. Tap “Unlock map” to drag it and to zoom with two fingers.

Where the links and passages come from

No link is invented. The graph is the graph of the Greek map (thinker → text, concept → book, “See also”, concepts that often occur in the same paragraphs, concept → example), without Democracy — The God That Failed, which the English site leaves out. Labels are the English glossary terms. Descriptions are the English glossary explanations, the first sentence of the English thinker page, or the book’s subtitle.

Passages: verbatim sentences from the English originals, aligned with the passages of the Greek map; sentences that contain the term come first. The link opens the book or chapter at mises.org (or fee.org / qjae.mises.org) in a new tab. It reaches the chapter, not the single paragraph.
